(1882) - Chinese_ _Exclusion_ _Act__
  • no laborers for ten years (The act defined laborers as “skilled and unskilled laborers and Chinese employed in mining.” Thus very few Chinese could enter the country under the 1882 law.)
  • prohibited citizenship of Chinese living in US for less than 10 years
  • exceptions made: teachers, diplomats, students and relatives
